Bio

 

1990 -Born on November 10 of 1990 in Barcelona, ​​two days after her birth she moved to Badalona, where her family lived.

1995 -She began competing for the CN Badalona Team and, very quickly emerged as one of the best swimmers in the club's history.

2001 -She led the National Ranking of Ages Long Pool in the 100m freestyle with 1:03.68 (Sabadell, 01.06.2002), 400 freestyle with 4:51.19 (Zaragoza 27/06/2002) 100m butterfly style with 1:10.22 (Zaragoza 28/06/2002), and 200m individual medley 2:37.22 (Reus, 02/08/2002). 

 

In her first national championship, Youth Spain Championship celebrated in Zaragoza, she achieved her first titles of Spain played in the junior category. She won the 100m freestyle, 400 freestyle, 100 butterfly style, 4x100 female freestyle, 4x200 female freestyle and 4x100 women individual medley.


2002 - During the Summer Infant Championship of Spain 2002 celebrated in Valencia, under her age of majority, she achieved the gold medal in the 400m individual medley (5:15.83), bronze medal in the 100 butterfly style (1:08.00) and bronze medal in the 200m individual medley (2:31.39). The RFEN Association incorporated her into the Control and Monitoring Plan of the National Plan for Sports Modernization.

2003 -She began to swim for the CN Hospitalet Team, training in the CAR (High Performance Centre, in Sant Cugat) as a part of the Jordi Murió’s team.

2004 -Mireia won a gold medal in the 400m individual medley (5:11.08), 400m freestyle (4:31.06) and 200m butterfly style (2:20.62) in the Spain Summer Children’s Championship, celebrated in Reus (Tarragona). At the end of the sport season, she led the children’s ranking on tests of 200m and 400m freestyle.

2005 -She took part in her first Junior European Championship and her first Absolute Spain Championship with excellent results in both of them.


2005 - In the Absolute Winter Spain Championships, celebrated in Palma de Mallorca, she achieved the silver medal in the 400m individual medley. Furthermore, in the Latin Cup Championship celebrated in Sao Paulo (Brazil), she achieved the gold medal in large swimming pools with 4:56.38. Later, in the Multinationals Junior Large Swimming Pool Championship, celebrated in Hamburg (Germany), she achieved the first position in the 400m individual medley with 4:55.30, 800m freestyle (8:57.81), 400m freestyle (4:20.05).


Finally, in the Spain Spring Open, celebrated in Sabadell (Barcelona), she got the silver medal in the 800m freestyle (8:52.88) and in the 400m individual medley (4:52.42).

2006 - In the Junior World Championships, celebrated in August of 2006 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), she was proclaimed as World Junior Champion in the 400m freestyle (4:14.29) and in the 400m individual medley (4:47.38).


In the European Junior Championships, celebrated in Palma de Mallorca, she was declared as a Junior European Champion twice; in the 200m freestyle with 2:01.61, and, furthermore, she got her second European gold medal in the 400m freestyle with 4:46.24.

 

In the Absolute Summer Spain Championship, celebrated in Almeria, she was proclaimed as Absolute Spain Champion in the 200m individual medley with a time of 2:16.95 and 4:45.55 in the 400m medley.


For the first time, she was invited by the absolute team for the championship in Hungary.

2007- This year, she moved to the Blume’s residence in Madrid, with her coach Jordi Murió.

 

In March of 2007, Mireia participated in her first Absolute World Championship in Melbourne (Australia). In this championship she swam the 200m butterfly style (2:12.45), the 200m individual medley (2:18.04) and 400m individual medley (4:46.68).

 

 Also, she participated in the Short Swimming Pool European Championships, celebrated in Helsinki (Finland), where she swam the 400m and the 800m freestyle and the 200m and the 400m individual medley.

 

Furthermore, in the Absolute Winter Barcelona Championship (short swimming pool), she got the gold medal in the 200m individual medley (2:13.09), 400m individual medley (4:38.33) and 4x200 freestyle. In addition, she achieved the bronze medal in the 400 freestyle (4:07.15). 

 

In the Bernat Picornell’s pool, in Barcelona, she achieved the first position in the 400m styles with 4:46.85, the Spain record in the 200m butterfly style with 2:12.55 and in the 200m individual medley with 2:15.60.


2008 – She moved to Sant Cugat’s CAR (Barcelona) with Carles Subirana.


Mireia, got her fist medal in the absolute team at the European Championships of Debrecen, in December. So, she achieved the 400m individual medley (4:31.06) and also got her first Spain record in short pool.


 In the European Championships, celebrated in Eindhoven (Netherlands), she achieved different medals in large pool: The gold medal in the 200m individual medley (2:11.16) and the bronze medal (2:09.32) in the 200m butterfly style. In both cases, beating her own record of Spain, getting the pass for the Beijing Olympics


 In the Spain Championship of Gijón, she got two gold medals, in the 400m and 200m individual medley and in the 200m butterfly style.

Nowadays, she has the record of Spain in the 400m and 200m individual medley; in both, short and large swimming pool. The 200m butterfly style in large swimming pool and the 200m in breaststroke short swimming pool.


Mireia Belmonte broke the world record in the 400 individual medley short swimming pools with a time of 4:25.06 and achieved the gold medal in the European Championships of short swimming pool of Rijeka (Croatia). The previous record was held by the American Julia Smit, with 4:25.87, from November 28 of 2008 in Toronto, Canada.

2010 - She was strengthened in the Short Swimming Pool World Championship of Dubai, where she got a very remarkable performance, achieving three gold medals: The 200m in butterfly style, 200m in individual medley and 400m in individual medley. Furthermore, she got a silver gold in the 800m freestyle.

2011 –In the Spain Championship, she achieved the best result in the 400m individual medley and a new record in Spain with 4:34.91, and another Spain record in 200m butterfly style in 2:06:25.

 

Finally, in July 2011, in the Shanghai World Championship, she achieved the fourth-best mark in the world in the 400m individual medley.
